Asthma

Deaths from asthma attacks in the UK are the highest they have been in the last decade and have increased by more than 33% over the last ten years.

Asthma is a highly prevalent condition and 85% of people with asthma are solely managed by primary care.  Asthma can be treated effectively with appropriate management and patients achieving good control of their condition.

The NHS spends around £1.1 billion a year treating and caring for people with asthma and dedicates considerable resource to the management of asthma in a primary care setting to minimise the
morbidity and mortality associated with poorly controlled asthma.

Interface partner with healthcare organisations to, including practices, PCNs and ICSs to deliver a proactive risk management approach to asthma to improve outcomes and reduce urgent care episodes.

Interface are able to support the systematic management of adults with asthma in line with best practice guidelines to improve patient outcomes.

Using your practice clinical system and our bespoke searches, Interface can:

      • Provide equity of care and optimal management for adults with asthma following patient consultation
      • Improve inhaler technique and concordance with regimen to reduce symptoms and attacks
      • Increase patient understanding of asthma and ability to self-manage
      • Baseline and outcomes dashboard to drive sustained quality improvement activity

Our pharmacists will review adults with indicators of uncontrolled asthma to help optimise the management of their condition. Interface can also review adults currently prescribed moderate/high-dose inhaled corticosteroids who are well controlled. It may be the case that their treatment plans can be stepped down benefiting both the patient and practice.
