The event is in response to the independent Now or Never report published in November 2013 and will focus on the reports recommendation that ‘pharmacists should develop networks or professional chambers’.
Jim’s presentation, Pharmacists in Federation Care, will focus around David Nicholson’s comments made in March 2014 at the NHS Expo;
‘We are not going to make the changes around seven-day services, early diagnosis, looking after people and supporting people with long term conditions with 8,000 corner shops’
Jim will discuss how the sentiment behind Nicholson’s statement is correct, despite the analogy itself being misleading because the retail sector is monopolised by large corporations as corner shops fall into decline. Jim will discuss how primary care can adopt aspects of this model to address economies of scale, competition and consumer trends. By forming federations, primary care can create a level playing field, enhancing the capacity of all practices and enabling service integration across all providers, including pharmacy.
Interface have partnered with innovative GP Federations and have witnessed the benefits of consistency and integrated guidance and best practice first hand.
